Frequently Asked Questions

Fees
Individual and couples therapy---$175 per session.
Group therapy---$75 per session.

Initial Consultation
Before beginning individual or couples therapy, I ask that we meet for a three-session consultation.  The consultation is an opportunity to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals for therapy, and your readiness to engage in therapy. It is also an opportunity for you to see how I do therapy and for you decide if you find my approach helpful.

The consultation sessions are 60 minutes long, and the cost is $225 per session.  By the end of the screening consultation you will know if the way I work is right for you.  If it is, and we agree to begin ongoing therapy, we will determine the optimal length and a convenient day and time for our meetings.  My basic fee for
individual or couples therapy ($175) is based on a 45-minute session.  For longer sessions (60, 75 or 90 minutes), the fee is pro-rated.  Please note, if you do not attend your scheduled therapy appointment, and have not notified me at least 48 hours in advance, you are charged the full cost of the session.

Before beginning group therapy I ask that we meet for a four-session consultation.  The group therapy consultation includes three individual sessions and a trial visit with the group---the individual sessions are 60 minutes each and cost $225 per session; the trial group visit is free. Please note that the fee for ongoing group therapy is a "subscription" to the group.  It is not refunded or waived in the event that you cannot attend a session. New members are expected to commit to a minimum of 12 sessions in order to give you sufficient time to successfully transition into the group.

Insurance
I do not take insurance.  However, as an R-certified Clinical Social Worker my services are reimbursable if your benefits include coverage for "out-of-network" psychotherapy.  Speak with your employer or benefits administrator to determine the full extent of your mental health benefits.  Ask:

  • Will I be reimbursed if I meet with an out-of-network mental health provider?
  • How much is my deductible?
  • How much will I be reimbursed per session?
  • How many sessions per year does my insurance cover?
Payment
Payment is expected at the time of the appointment.

Session Structure (Frequency, Duration and Location)

Good psychotherapy responds to your personal needs and circumstances.  For this reason I offer clients the possibility of flexibly arranging the structure (the frequency, duration and location) of our sessions when it seems fitting and indicated.

While some clients prefer (and often need) a weekly meeting of 45 minutes, others require something different. For example, some clients need only a few sessions of short-term "crisis" counseling, rather than longer-term, insight or growth-oriented therapy.  Some clients want to meet twice-weekly, while others wish to meet on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.  Some clients choose to meet with me for 30 minutes and others for 90 minutes.  And finally, some clients prefer to talk on the phone, use Skpye or Google chat, or even meet in their home (when they are disabled).

The goal is to create a consistent and reliable therapeutic framework that suits your needs and circumstances.  I invite you to talk with me so that we can establish an arrangement that will best address your presenting problems, needs and resources.
